Aaron Lewis may have gotten his start in alternative rock, but he's currently making waves in country music. Known for his raw, outlaw-like sound, country fans have welcomed Lewis with open arms, and he's experienced great success in the genre so far. He proved the reason why when he covered one of Rascal Flatts' signature songs.
"What Hurts the Most" was originally recorded by country artist Mark Wills in 2003, but it was Rascal Flatts who turned it into a big hit. Their version reached number one on the country charts and crossed over to claim the sixth spot on the Billboard Hot 100.
Lewis decided to take on this emotional song, and his version is drastically different from Rascal Flatts'...in a good way. His raw, gritty delivery of the song gives it a darker tone than it had before, adding further to its emotional intensity.
The new arrangement and style also gives Lewis the chance to show off the extent of his talent, as he brings out the underlying pain in every word of the song. Just from listening to the recording, you can tell that Lewis poured his heart and soul into each note.
This is something you simply can't miss out on. Listen to Lewis' cover of "What Hurts the Most" in the clip below and let us know what you think.
